If possible, try to reach an emergency refuge area (ERA) and use a designated emergency phone. If you’re unable to move your vehicle, turn on the hazard lights and call us immediately.

Yes, if it is safe and the issue with your vehicle is something simple, we’ll always try to get you moving again there and then (for example, a flat battery or tyre issue).

However, on UK motorways the priority is getting you to safety quickly. In most cases, we’ll recover your vehicle off the motorway first (to your chosen location), where we can properly diagnose and repair it without risk.

Yes, in addition to your standard cars (petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric), we can recover:

• Buses and coaches
• Motorbikes
• Light commercial vehicles (up to around 3 tonnes)

If you breaks down on the motorway, all you have to do is follow the steps below:

• Move your vehicle to a safe position on the hard shoulder or an emergency refuge area (ERA), if possible
• Switch on hazard lights, exit the vehicle safely (passenger side if possible) and stand well away from the traffic
• Call 01543 399609 and select Option 2 for Recovery.
• Tell us your location (motorway, junction or marker post), vehicle details and what’s happened.
• We’ll dispatch a recovery vehicle immediately and keep you updated on arrival time.
